Sound and Light show for ‘Paris of East’

After getting encouraging response from the ‘Son Et Lumiere’ show (Sound and Light show) of National Memorial Cellular Jail, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration is now planning to start another Sound and Light Show at historic, Ross Island. The haunted looking Ross Island, which was once called "Paris of East" as it was the headquarters of the Indian Penal Settlement during British era, for nearly 80 years. It had everything — bazaar, bakery, stores, water treatment plant, church, tennis court, printing press, secretariat, hospital, cemetery and everything else, before the island was rocked by a mega quake in 1941.
Andaman Administration is planning the Sound and Light show by utilizing amount allocated by Planning Commission, Govt. of India as 100 percent subsidy. “The script for the proposed show is being prepared based on the historical facts related to Ross Island,” an official release issued by Andaman Tourism Department said here today.
Meanwhile to make the script full-proof the Tourism Department has now invited information or any other kind of inputs related to the history of Ross Island authenticated by supporting data for finalizing the script. Highly placed sources told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ that there were efforts from the side of Tourism Department to get the voice of Bollywood King Amitabh Bachan for the Sound and Light show of Ross Island.
At present the Sound and Light show of Historic Cellular Jail, depicting the freedom struggles goes house full most of the time and is being praised by each and every tourists as well as visiting dignitaries. The main voice of Cellular Jail’s Sound and Light show was given by Bollywood actor ‘Om Puri’. Meanwhile the Tour Operators of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have welcome the move of Andaman’s Tourism department, saying this will help in attracting more national and international tourists.
“We welcome this move, the Sound and Light show will be another feather on the cap of these picturesque islands,” M Vinod, the president of Association of Tour Operators (ATO) in Andaman told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
