Chennai International Terminals Pvt Ltd (CITPL), owned and managed by PSA International,
welcomed the maiden call of Regional Container Lines (RCL) vessel MV Buxharmony on April
9.
The call at CITPL represents RCL’s collaboration as a new consortium partner on the India Far East Express (INDFEX2) service. Besides the vessel’s induction to this service, CITPL also achieved another milestone in vessel productivity on April 10 by handling 115 moves per hour for this call, completing all moves within 17 hours.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Sivakumar Kaliannan, General Manager, CITPL, said: “CITPL has been progressively commissioning its four new Super Post Panamax Quay Cranes and eight new Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes from last April to increase its handling capacity and improve its service level to our customers.”
While our productivity has been improving since July 2012, we are pleased to cross the vessel productivity benchmark of 100 moves per hour and to achieve it on a maiden vessel call. This is in line with CITPL’s commitment to provide reliable and efficient services to our customers,” Mr. Sivakumar added.
CITPL currently has a total of seven Quay Cranes (all twin lifts) and 18 Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes, which have more than doubled the handling capacity of the terminal. CITPL is also increasing the number of reefer plugs and will be constructing additional container stacking yard to meet business demands.
The terminal currently caters to five mainline services to the Far East, two Colombo services and two Coastal services.
