CHENNAI: With a view to ensure proper implementation of garbage collection in the city’s three new zones from the word go, the Chennai Corporation has planned to give the new player, who would be replacing current operator Neel Metal Fanalca on January 1, 2012, two months from November to understand the operational patterns and come out with all guns blazing.
According to civic body sources, technical bids to select a new private player to take over the conservancy operations from the proposed new zones — Teynampet (Zone IX), Kodambakkam (Zone X) and Adyar (Zone XIII), will be opened on October 14. All the modalities would be finalised in about two weeks time, by the end of October and the agency would be given two months time to keep itself ready to put up a good show from the first day, sources told City Express.
The existing private player, Neel Metal Fanalca, was entrusted with the conservancy work in four zones – Pulianthope, Triplicane, Adyar and Kodambakkam till 2014. However, the Chennai Corporation decided to terminate NMF’s contract in March this year after finding the company was found wanting in removing garbage from its zones. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court came to the private agency’s rescue and allowed them to continue till December this year and also asked the civic body to select a new player to replace NMF in January next year. The civic body has arranged for a ‘site visit’ for the potential bidders on Monday and pre-bid will be held at Ripon Buildings on October 1. October 14 will be the last date for submitting bids and all the bids would be opened in the same evening for further process.
The buffer time of two months from November 1 to December 31 will enable the new player to keep out any sluggishness on the first day of action, civic body sources told City Express.
