CHENNAI: Impressive show by Corporation schools

CHENNAI: Braving socio-economic odds, students from the city’s Corporation-run schools have yet again excelled at the Class 12 board exams securing a pass percentage of 86.41.
In doing so, they have bettered the Corporation schools’ last year record of 84.81 per cent, proving that talent knows no economic boundaries.
Speaking to reporters at the Ripon Building, Mayor M Subramanian said, “With sustained efforts by the civic body to improve the quality of education and due to numerous incentives to achievers, students of our schools are producing good results year after year.
Incidentally, the percentage, secured by the Chennai Corporation Schools was higher than the overall state pass percentage of 85.9 this year. Also, the Corporation schools improved their performance by a whopping two percentage points compared to last year, recording the highest ever percentage in Chennai Corporation’s 323 year history.
P Prem Kumar, of Chennai Corporation Higher Secondary School, Maduvankarai, topped among the 30 civic body-run schools with 1174 marks, while D Akalya Dharini, of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam, secured the second place with 1167 marks. M Zaheera Begum of Chennai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet, comes a close third with 1166 marks.
Besides, Chennai students have also secured the top three spots in a Photography vocational course. Students of Chennai Higher Secondary School, Choolaimedu, R Natesan, T Solaimani and N Periyasamy, secured first, second and third positions respectively.
