Coast Guard IG Achutan Rajasekhar passes away



Inspector General Achutan Rajasekhar, who relinquished office of the Commander Coast Guard Region (East) on 29 Dec 10 passed away at Military Hospital, Chennai on 03 Apr 11 at 0730 hrs after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his mother, wife and one son.

IG A Rajasekhar was from the first batch of Coast Guard officers. He joined the Indian Coast Guard on 04 Feb 1980. 
He was the recipient of the ‘Binoculars, for standing first in the merit during cadet’s phase. Inspector General A Rajasekhar had held many important operational and staff appointments both, afloat and ashore during his 31 years of service.
Some of the important appointments are Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), Director (Manpower Planning, Recruitment & Training), Joint Director (Plans), Deputy Director General of Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi, Chief of Staff of Regional Headquarters (West), Mumbai, Commander of Coast Guard Gujarat State and Commander, Coast Guard Region (East). In addition, he had commanded four Coast Guard ships.
The Flag Officer was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in Aug 2004 and President Tatrakshak Medal in Aug 2006 for his distinguished service. He was an avid sportsman and had represented Kerala University in Hockey at the national level. He was also a member of Kerala State Junior & Senior Hockey teams, three times each. Besides this he was a member of combined universities hockey team in 1978. The officer was an accomplished badminton player also having won many local level tournaments at different places in the country.
In the passing away of IG A Rajasekhar the Indian Coast Guard has lost a good leader and an able administrator.

  4. He is really a very Great Guy,we are playing Badminton altogether since last 2 Years, he is very Talented and Loved man,Everybody Respect him.
    It makes us proud to be with him all the time.
    A Person by whom we inspired in Life.
