Andaman and Nicobar Coast Guard adds its fleet strength

Giving more teeth to its operational capabilities, especially in anti-poaching activities in creeks, the Coast Guard Andaman Nicobar Region has added ICG Ship C-145 to its fleet. The coast guard ship C-145 which is third in its series of 11 interceptor boats was welcomed by the DIG, Coast Guard Region (A&N), MA WARSI on its arrival at the Coast Guard jetty today.
Addressing the coast guard personnel, the DIG said the new ship will strengthen the Coast Guard’s operational capabilities and it will be rebased at Diglipur for operational deployment. The re-basing of the ship in this region has been planned to strengthen the coast guard assets as a platform capable of providing quick response to emergent operational requirement and close coast operations, he added.
The ship commanded by Commandant (JG) SR Nagendran, a qualified group testing officer, said that the ship sailed from Mumbai on March 28, touched Coast Guard Stations at Goa, Mangrove, Cochin, Tuticorin and Chennai before reaching Port Blair. The ship is capable of achieving top speed of 45 knots and is equipped with the latest state of the art navigational, communication and machineries equipment, he added.
Welcoming the officers and crew members of the ship, Commandant (JG) BK Singh the CG Ship C-145 is third in its series of 11 interceptor boats. It is designed by M/s Thornycroft Maritime and Associates, Australia and was constructed by M/s ABG Shipyard Ltd, Surat. The vessel has an length of overall 28.4 mtrs, breadth 6.6 mtrs and draught of 1.5 mtr and the maximum displacement of the ship is 90 tonnes.
