Port Blair will soon have Thiruvalluvar’s statue

Andaman and Nicobar Island’s capital Port Blair will soon have a new landmark: a statue of saint poet Thiruvalluvar.
VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam, which is organising a four-day World Thirukural Conference in the Island capital, has donated
the saint Thiruvalluvar’s 6.5-foot-high granite statue. It is expected to inaugurated by Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on November 7.
Briefing reporters about the events scheduled at Port Blair during the world conference, V G Santhosam, chairman of VGP Group, said, “During my visit to Port Blair a month ago, representatives of the Andaman Tamizhar Sangam had made the request since they had got the permission almost a year ago.”

Based on their request, VGP Ulaga Tamil Sangam ordered the statue at Nagercoil, and the same will be sent to Port Blair, he added.
For saint poet Thiruvalluvar’s statue the Port Blair Municipal Council has granted a site infront of the Port Blair harbour at Haddo, which is a gateway for seaward passengers from Chennai, Visakhapattnam and Kolkata.
