Fire at cracker godown in Tiruvallur killed 30?




More than 30 persons were reportedly killed and several others injured in a fire that broke out in a cracker godown at Pallipattu in Thiruvallur district late on Friday.
According to Fire and Rescue Service, the cracker shop was owned by Anandakumar and said to be one of the biggest in the whole locality.

It was being run from a rice mill and people from nearby villages flocking it to buy crackers for Deepavali. There was a big crowd in the shop when the incident took place.
The officers said the cause of the fire, which reportedly broke out in the evening, was yet to be ascertained. The bodies were charred beyond recognition, they added.
The district police and fire service personnel are carrying out rescue operations. Death toll is expected to rise, a police official said.
