Pawan Hans Helicopter Crash-Lands in Sea Off Mayabunder Coast; All Passengers Rescued

Mayabunder, 24 February 2026: 


A Pawan Hans helicopter with five passengers, including an infant, reportedly crash-landed into the sea near the Mayabunder Helipad.

According to multiple media reports and eyewitness accounts, the helicopter took off from Diglipur and was scheduled to land at Mayabunder Helipad at 9:55 AM before continuing its journey to Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair).

It appears to have lost control and crash-landed in the sea, reportedly about 500 metres from the designated landing pad. The exact cause of the incident is still being investigated by local authorities. According to Andaman Sheekha, which quoted Krishna Chaitanya, SDM Mayabunder, the District Administration responded within 15 minutes of the incident.

He confirmed that all passengers, along with the pilot and co-pilot, were rescued safely. Police boats and local fishermen's boats played a major role in the rescue operation.
