CHENNAI: Perambur MLA A Soundararajan (CPIM) on Saturday met Chennai Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy at the Ripon Buildings and presented a 12-point agenda to improve basic amenities and other problems affecting the development of the area.
In a three-page memorandum, Soundarajan appealed to the civic body chief to shift the Kodungaiyur dumping yard to a remote suburban area to save lakhs of people living near the yard for decades.
It may be noted that MLA Soundararajan, during the Council Meeting at the Chennai Corporation in June, had made a fervent appeal to the Mayor and the Commissioner to shift the yard, as the very presence of the dumping yard at Kodungaiyur had been creating severe health-related problems for the locals over the years.
Besides the shifting of the yard, Soundararajan has asked the Mayor to streamline collection and disposal of garbage in the Perambur area.
Improvement of the maternity hospital located at Ambedkar College Road, construction of own building for Balwadi Centre at R R Nagar, upgradation of the Chennai Girls High School at Sharma Nagar as Higher Secondary School, regular maintenance of 2,500-odd streetlights, construction of new storm water drains at Sri Ram Nagar and MKB Nagar for better connectivity with canal, improvement of playgrounds and children’s parks, de-silting and deepening of the well at Eveready Colony to increase the ground water storage, construction of new bus stands and maintenance of the crematorium at MPM Street are among the points raised by Soundarajan with Mayor Duraisamy during the meeting.
Soundarajan also urged the Mayor to repair and re-lay the badly damaged Ambedkar College Road and Erukanchery Road, which are used by a number of motorists everyday.
While replying to Soundararajan’s charter of demands, the Mayor assured him that he would look into the issues pertaining to the improvement of basic amenities in the Perambur area.
