CHENNAI: Reacting to the news report published in Express on Tuesday, the Chennai Port Trust has finally restored the power supply to Chennai Fishing Harbour Management Committee’s Office and Diesel Bunk at Kasimedu.
In a statement sent to Express, the port management said that the office and diesel bunk was interrupted four days ago due to an underground cable fault.
“It was found that the cable carrying power supply up to the office and bunk was damaged by a JCB engaged for the improvement and widening of Ennore Expressway Project during excavation,” the statement read.
Though immediate action was initiated by the port trust management to restore power supply to the premises, the damage on the cable could not be traced immediately, as the JCB driver refused to stop the earth excavation work at the Fisheries Harbour, it further said.
The cable fault could be located only after four days and by using 30 metres length of EB cable, the fault was rectified and power supply restored to the Fisheries Harbour, the statement from the port clarified.
The port trust authorities also clarified that the delay in the restoration of power supply was not due to the non-settlement of the electricity bill to be paid by the Fisheries Harbour Management Committee to the Chennai Port
Trust.
