CHENNAI: The centrally located Loyola College, which has been designated as one among the 18 counting centres for the Chennai Corporation election, would become a virtual ‘Command Centre’ for the District Election Officer D Karthikeyan on October 21.
According to sources, the DEO would have a dedicated room equipped with secured online facility to monitor results for the elections to Mayor as well as for 200 councillors pouring into the command centre from 35 assistant returning officers (AROs).Besides being a command centre for Mayor results, Loyola College would also host counting of 11 wards (74 to 78 and 109 to 114) in the Corporation.While the trends and round-wise results would be updated to the DEO via online facilities minute-by-minute, there has been another plan to set up fax machines with seven dedicated lines to cross-verify results (in hard copies) sent by 35 AROs.Counting of votes has also been planned at Thiyagaraya College, Old Washermenpet, Bharathi Art College, Prakasam Salai, P T Chengalvarayan Polytechnic, Vepery, Pachaiappa’s College, Aminjikarai, Queen Mary’s College, Kamarajar Salai, Meenakshi Engineering College, Virugambakkam, College of Engineering, Sardar Patel Road, Vellaiyan Chettiar School, Thiruvotriyur, Velammal Engineering College, Surapet, Rajarajeshwari Engineering College, Adayalampattu, Asan Memorial College, Pallikaranai and D B Jain College, Thoraipakkam.
