Chennai Corporation website hosts page on city’s seats

CHENNAI: With a view to keeping the voters in the city’s 16 Assembly constituencies well informed about the elections, the district election office has created a dedicated webpage on the Chennai Corporation’s website (www.chennaicorporation.gov.in).

Speaking to Express, D Karthikeyan, District Election Officer and Commissioner of Chennai Corporation, said, “The main objective of going online with the webpage, hosted at the civic body’s website, was to give as much information as possible about the electoral process, details of all constituencies, contact numbers of returning officers and observers, to the voters.”

The site, under the search word ‘Assembly Elections 2011’, also hosts the ‘District Election Management Plan,’ a bank of various details for voters, including the number of polling stations with their addresses in each constituency, contact numbers of all returning officers, assistant returning officers, zonal officers and booth-level police officials.
Though other district election offices in the state preferred to print the election management plan as a book and distribute it among the officials concerned, Chennai district had uploaded it on the website to allow the voters to know about it online.

It also has date-wise details about the electoral processes starting from filing the nominations, its scrutiny, last date for withdrawal of candidature and date of polls.According to official sources, the website has recorded a surge in hits after creating the dedicated webpage with all details on Assembly election.
