கருணாநிதிக்கு “அண்ணா விருது“ வழங்கப்படுவதையொட்டி, அண்ணா கருணாநிதிக்கு எழுதிய கடிதம்.

அன்புள்ள தம்பி,
செப்டம்பர் 26ம் நாள், என் பெயரில் உனக்கு விருது வழங்கப்படுவதாக செய்தியறிந்தேன். இந்த நேரத்தில், இவ்விருது உனக்கு தகுதியானதுதானா என்ற எண்ணம் என் மனதில் உதிப்பதை உதாசீனப்படுத்த இயலவில்லை.
தம்பி தம்பி என்று வாயார உன்னை நானழைத்தபோதெல்லாம், இத்தம்பி, எனது கொள்கைகளையும், லட்சியங்களையும், தரணியெல்லாம், எடுத்துச் செல்வான், தமிழ்கூறும் நல்லுலகின் புகழ் பரப்புவான் என்றெண்ணியதுண்டு. ஆனால், தமிழ்கூறும் நல்லுலகம் உன் குடும்பம் மட்டுமே என கருதுவாய் என நான் கனவிலும் நினைக்கவில்லை.
வடக்கு வாழ்கிறது, தெற்கு தேய்கிறது என்று நான் சொன்னதை, உன் குடும்பம் மந்திரி பதவிகளைப் பெற்றதும் “வடக்கு வழங்குகிறது, தெற்கு செழிக்கிறது“ என்று நீ மாற்றிவிட்டாய். எந்த காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியை நாம் ஒழித்து, அழித்து, பூண்டோடு அற்றுப் போகச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று நாம் பாடுபட்டு 67ல் ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தோமோ, அதே காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் தலைவியை “தியாகத் திருவிளக்கு“ என்று பட்டமளித்து, பிணமாயிருந்த காங்கிரஸ் கட்சிக்கு உயிரூட்டி, அழகு பார்க்கிறாய்.
வரலாறை திரும்பிப் பார் தம்பி ! என் மறைவுக்குப் பின், என் உயிரினும் மேலான அன்பு இளவல் “நாவலர்“ நெடுஞ்செழியன் முதல்வராக பதவிக்கு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப் பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், மலையாள மன்னவனும் மக்களை வென்றவனுமான எம்ஜிஆரின் உதவியுடன், நாவலரைத் தோற்கடித்து, நீ முதல்வர் பதவியை நயவஞ்சகமாக பிடித்ததை நான் அறிவேன்.

ஆட்சியைப் பிடித்தவுடன், எந்த எம்ஜிஆரால் நீ பதவிக்கு வந்தாயோ, அதே எம்ஜிஆரை கட்சியை விட்டு நீ நீக்கியதையும், அதற்காக தமிழக மக்கள் உன்னை 13 ஆண்டுகள் தண்டித்ததையும் வரலாறு பார்த்துக் கொண்டுதான் இருக்கிறது.

67ல் ஆட்சிக்கு வரும் வரையில், பல போராட்டங்களை நடத்தியும், சினிமாவுக்கு வசனம் எழுதியும், தமிழக மக்களை நாம் ஏமாற்றி வந்தோம். ஆனால், நான் தொடங்கி வைத்ததை இத்தனை ஆண்டுகள் நீ திறம்பட நடத்துவாய் என நான் எதிர்ப்பார்க்க வில்லை.
எனது ஆட்சியில் “பொதுப் பணித்துறை“ அமைச்சராக நீ இருந்தபொழுது, “பொதுப்பணியை“ கவனிக்காமல், “கலைப்பணி“ யில் ஈடுபட்டு, “காகிதப்பூ“ கதாநாயகியை கர்ப்பிணியாக்கி நான் சொன்னதால், இரண்டாவதாக மணம் புரிந்ததையும் நான் அறிவேன்.
பெரியார் பாசறையிலே என்னோடு சேர்ந்து நீயும் பயின்றவன் என்பதால், ஓரளவாவது பகுத்தறிவோடு இருப்பாய் என எதிர்ப்பார்தேன். ஆனால், மதவாத பிஜேபியுடன் கூட்டணி சேர்ந்து, பாபர் மசூதியை இடித்தவர்களுக்கு மகுடம் சூட்டுவதில், பக்கத் துணையாய் இருப்பாய் என்பதை யார்தான் எதிர்ப்பார்த்திருப்பார் ? சோதிடத்தில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு, அதனால் மஞ்சள் துண்டு அணிந்து, “மஞ்சள் துண்டு மடாதிபதி“யாய் மாறிய உன்னை பெரியார் மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்.

“ஒன்றே குலம், ஒருவனே தேவன்“ என்று நான் சமரசம் செய்தால், உன் அமைச்சர்களை தீ மிதிக்கும் அளவுக்கு வளர்த்துவிட்டுள்ளாய்.
இக்கட்சியை உருவாக்கியதில், மிக முக்கிய பங்கு வகித்தவர்கள் எல்லாரும், இப்போது மறைந்து போய், அவர்களின் குடும்பங்கள் வறிய நிலையில் வாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், உன் குடும்பம், உலக செல்வந்தர்கள் வரிசையில் தொடர்ந்து முன்னேறிக்கொண்டிருப்பது, காலத்தின் கோலமே !
மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையும் கூட மன்னித்து விடலாம் தம்பி.... இலங்கைத் தமிழர்கள் விஷயத்தில், நீ ஆடிய நாடகமும், லட்சக்கணக்கான தமிழர்கள் உயிரிழந்து கொண்டிருக்கையில், பதவியை தக்க வைத்துக் கொள்வதற்காக, காங்கிரஸ் காலில் விழுந்து கிடந்ததை நான் மன்னித்தாலும் காலம் மன்னிக்காது. “தமிழர்களை காப்பாற்றுங்கள் தாயே“ என்று அழுது நடித்த நாடகம் தமிழர்களிடத்தில் எடுபடவில்லை. இத்தனை தமிழர்களின் உயிர் போனதற்கு நீதான் காரணம் என்று வரலாறு உன் பெயரை பதிவு செய்யும்.
ஆகையால், என் பெயரால், உனக்கு வழங்கப் படும் விருதுக்கு நீ எள் முனையளவும் தகுதி படைத்தவன் கிடையாது.

SRI LANKA: 254,000 jobs axed in six months

155000 persons in the industrial sector and 99,000 in the services sector have lost their jobs within the first six months of this year. Accordingly the total number of people who lost jobs during the period is 254,000 states reports from Department of Census and Statistics.

Meanwhile, the government has taken loans for high interests by issuing development bonds for Rs.150000 million. Out of this amount Rs.75000 million has been allocated to pay loan installments and interest.

Latest statistics issued by the Department of Census and Statistic reveal the economic growth by the second quarter of this year has come down by 2.1%. Also, several ministries are preparing to get supplementary estimates to the value of Rs.6000 million approved during the next three months.

All this data reveal that the economic crisis the government has been trying to hide has aggravated.

SRI LANKA: Hizbullahs’ great rip off

The Sunday Leader last week published an article on multi million rupee loans given to four companies which operated under the names of M/s. Serendib Manufacturers Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., M/s. Happy Day Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Green Flowers MFG (Pvt) Ltd., and M/s. Serendib Clothing Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
The monies to the tune of Rs. 67.5 million were all released by Ceylinco Profit Sharing Investment Corporation Ltd., on guarantees given by Hizbullah in his position then as Chairman, Airport and Aviation Services Ltd. — finally ending in July 2007, to Mrs. Sithy Rameeza Sahabdeen, wife of M. L. A. M. Hizbullah Minister for Health, Sports and IT Education in the Eastern Provincial Council.
Hizbullah admitted that all four companies of which his wife served as Chairperson “collapsed” and ceased to be functional by 2006. Asked what happened to the Rs. 67.5 million “borrowed” from Ceylinco Profit Sharing he replied “it was all lost.” Asked if he had any intention of paying the monies back he said “No. Why should I? This was not my responsibility.”
Companies not operative
This week we have proof that in April 2007, by which time Hizbullah himself admits the said companies were no longer operative two of the companies made another multi million rupee claim to Amana Takaful Insurance Ltd., alleging over Rs.100 million worth of machinery and goods had been destroyed in a fire.
When we again spoke with Hizbullah he reiterated that the companies were indeed non functional at the time of the fire. He said police investigations into the cause of the fire found that some “outsiders” may have been responsible.
Asked to be more specific, Hizbullah explained that while the factories had been in operation two or three employees had on “two or three occasions” been caught stealing and had been apprehended and remanded. He asserted however that he could not be certain if it were indeed these disgruntled elements who were responsible for the fire.
Utility bills unpaid
The Sunday Leader has since found out that Minister Hisbullah’s wife rented the Paddy Marketing Board Stores at Meetotamulla to house his factories and at the time the companies stopped operating, rents, electricity dues and water bills have remained unpaid.
These factories housed machinery to manufacture electric kettles and door closers in partnership with a Korean group. In an interesting aside on April 23, 2007 the machinery installed in these premises belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board caught fire.
The fire was restricted to the immediate surroundings of the machinery and no damage of any consequence was caused to the buildings. Note that the factory had stopped operating since May 2006 and the Korean partners had left by then.
Claim refused
We reliably learn that M/s. Serendib Manufacturers Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., M/s. Happy Day Lanka (Pvt ) Ltd., have together made a claim from Amana Takaful amounting to some Rs. 125 million.
Amana Takaful refused to meet the claim asserting that an investigation by them found that the Hizbullahs had failed to disclose at the time of making the claim the factories situated next door to each other at Meetotamulla were non functional.
Now, Minister Hizbullah being a very unfortunate man when it comes to catastrophe is an understate-ment. He also operated a garment factory in Valachchenai (the only garment factory in the area) upto 2004. This factory was situated near the Valachchenai Police Station. This factory too was closed down and yes, no prizes for guessing what happened next. Fire. This claim however was met by the insurance company.
Minister Hizbullah though filing action in the Commercial High Court has not followed up by attending court, citing elections and being generally busy serving the people so that case keeps getting postponed.

Lanka’s Mandela

Both made it to the 20s. One was jailed for 27 years at Robben Island in South Africa and the other for 20 at Welikada in Sri Lanka. Nelson Mandela and J.S. Tissainayagam it could be argued were both jailed on similar grounds in similar circumstances – where regimes wary of the work they were involved in resorted to the easy way of silencing them by locking them up. Jayaprakash Tissainayagam many would say is no Nelson Mandela and they would most probably be right.
But let’s not get wires crossed here – the comparison is strictly limited to the fact that both believed in a cause that was for the greater good of society and went about it in a non-violent way – Mandela against Apartheid and Tissainayagam against anti democratic methods being used by the regime in power; be it the UNP in ’88-89 or exactly 20 years later, the UPFA in ’08-09.
From his childhood young Jayaprakash Tissainayagam showed signs of being different from the rest. He would stand up for what he believed was right and on many an occasion faced the wrath of the powers that be for his trouble.
This is what Tissainayagam, after 520 days in prison had to say from the dock on the conclusion of his trial;
“I was and am still an advocate against terrorism. I have criticised terrorism in whatever form. I never advocated violence, my objective was to generate non violent means of resolving the conflict, my research, writings and work was towards achieving this… I always agitated against violence, fought for justice and for the oppressed.”
Nelson Mandela concluded his statement from the dock at the opening of the defence case in the trial on April 20, 1964 at Pretoria Supreme Court, by saying;
“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to the struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
Tissa’s thinking was not much different. In the late ’80s he worked actively alongside those like Mahinda Rajapakse and Vasudeva Nanayakkara to bring to justice those responsible for many disappearances during the JVP insurrection. Twenty years later he was doing much the same thing but this time around his team mates in the ’80s were the ones he was fighting against and there, many say, lay the rub.
Blossomed out at Mount
Jayaprakash Tissainayagam was born on April 30, 1962. Six years later the young Tissainayagam was to enter S. Thomas’ Prep School. From there he went over to Mount Lavinia. Right along Tissainayagam studied in the English medium. It was after the young man shifted to the main school in Mount that he really blossomed out.
In his final year in school he won the class prize and also all three subject prizes in the A/L class. A voracious reader from a young age no one could prevent Tissainayagam from winning the Classical General Knowledge Quiz prize and went on to represent his school at quiz contests.
Tissa’s talents weren’t restricted to academic achievements; he was quite the sportsman too. And it was in athletics that the young Tissainayagam made an impression. His pet events were the rather challenging 100 and 200 metre events. He was a sprinter of no mean repute and had the distinction of being short listed to represent public schools.
Unfortunately his sporting exploits were to come to an abrupt end when one day young Tissa had fallen off a bus. Though physically he escaped with a few bruises he had damaged his eyes in the accident. It was later found that he had a detached retina and if extreme care was not taken to protect his eyes there was every possibility of him going blind.
In 1982 the academically inclined Tissainayagam gained entrance to the Peradeniya University. It was a volatile time for the young man as ethnic tensions were simmering pre-’83 but as fate would have it, when the riots broke out he was getting down from a bus that had arrived in Colombo from Kandy. Having survived through the riots and once things settled down somewhat, unlike the hordes of Tamils who took the first flight or boat out of the island Tissa took a bus back to Kandy to continue his studies at Pera.
In 1986 Tissa passed out from Peradeniya University with a second class upper in political science.
It was about this time that The Sunday Times was being set up and the young political science graduate was a natural choice in the first batch of journalists at the paper. After two years with The Times Tissa moved on to Marga Institute where he believed he would be able to put his knowledge to better use in the midst of the then JVP insurrection.
A little while later his thirst for knowledge took him to India, to the Jawaharlal Nehru University to complete a Masters. Having achieved what he set out to do Tissa was back in Sri Lanka in 1992 and immediately went back to Marga.

Contract terminated
About this time the staff at the institute were having a problem with the management and Tissa being Tissa spoke up on their behalf and soon enough it was he who was being targeted by the management and soon enough his contract was terminated. Tissa took the matter to the Labour Tribunal but lost the case there. Undeterred he petitioned the High Court where this time around he won the case and this enabled Tissa to hold his head high once again.
Later on the journalist in him took him to the Mirror where he stuck on for a while before he turned up in the offices of The Sunday Leader. Editor in Chief at the time, Lasantha Wickrematunge specially created the post of news features editor to accommodate Tissa. It was during this period that this writer really got to know Tissa. It was a laugh-a-minute situation in the editorial office with Tissa seeing the funny side of every situation and hearty laughs would ensue for quite a while.
But it was not all laughs either. There was serious work involved and no amount of distractions could veer Tissa away from his work in the news desk. Of course there was the almost daily post-mortem at the end of the day at the local waterhole, which was much looked forward to. Joining us quite regularly was Marwaan now in Bangkok and Asgar who is now in a different field. While events would be analysed, incidents dissected and theories formed following passionate arguments, it was all forgotten the next morning – just as well too – the ritual could start with a clean slate all over again.

Born introvert

If you knew Tissa for a day you would know that he was one of the most harmless people that walk the earth today. He is a born introvert. Violence was anathema to him and this resonated well with us for we shared similar sentiments. Tissa as we Sri Lankans say was very much an “eating drinking man” and far removed from the projected image these days of a terrorist.
Tissa left the Leader to engage himself in active peace building, a subject close to his heart especially with the then peace process floundering.
As a part of this endeavour he thought of setting up his own magazine which ultimately was to be the cause of his incarceration. While working on his magazine he also found time to find his life partner, a scribe herself and the two got married in Kandy in 2006. What a party it was where all his friends, the majority of whom were from communities other than his own, had a ball of a time. His wife, fearing for her safety is now in exile.

Chief Government Censor
A little known fact about Tissa is that almost every member of his family had served the nation in key posts at different periods with distinction. His father, M.J. Tissainayagam was Director Information and Broadcasting when he retired in 1979 after serving the Information Department for 35 long years. Ironically he was the Chief Government Censor during two crucial periods of the country’s history – after the assassination of S.W.R.D Bandaranaike in 1959 and during the JVP insurrection of 1971, on both occasions under SLFP regimes. Like Junior, Tissainayagam Senior also started off as a journalist in the early ’50s in the then Times of Ceylon.
Tissainayagam Senior was also a member of the Press Council when it was first set up in the late sixties, ironically again, the very institution the present regime is in the process of resurrecting.
Tissainayagam Senior was also the head of task force/competent authority for all media during the highly successful Non Aligned Summit in Colombo in 1976.
Following his retirement in 1979 Prime Minister at the time Ranasinghe Premadasa recalled Tissainayagam Senior back into service. Having joined the PM’s office he was entrusted the task of writing all the PM’s speeches. The historic speech Prime Minister Premadasa made at the UN based on which the organisation named 1988 as the Year of Habitat was also written by him.
Tissainayagam Senior’s brother, Tissa’s uncle, an engineer of repute served as the chief project engineer for the Kotmale Dam project, having been the sole government nominee for the post.
Engineering has been running in Tissainayagam blood – both Tissa’s grandfathers were district highways engineers when such posts were the domain of the colonial masters.
Of much significance however is that Tissa’s maternal uncle, mother’s brother, served the nation with distinction in the Sri Lanka Army. He rose to the rank of Major General and was the Army’s Chief of Staff when he retired in 1992 after 35 years of unblemished service. Many of the present commanders including the hierarchy of the defence establishment had served directly under him at some point of their service period.
Tissa’s own brother followed in the uncle’s footsteps in to the army and had to reluctantly hang up his boots having not been able to secure the required marks at the compulsory Official Languages Competency exam. He was the only Tamil in that particular batch.
As a result of this Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara raised the issue of Official Languages Competency in parliament at the time but without much luck.
It is the son of this family that has done the nation proud who was tried under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and is today being incarcerated for a period of 20 long years. His crime, speaking his mind. If there is a message in that, it is being heard loud and clear. The exodus of journalists both from the country and from the field is proof of it. Mandela came out a hero and there is no reason why Tissa should not.

SRI LANKA: Felix Perera: “Huge” fraud at Dikovita

The Rs. 7.9 billion Dikovita Fisheries Harbour project has stumbled upon some ‘fishy’ business with charges of ‘fraud’ being made by the Minister of Fisheries, Felix Perera and ‘avarice’ by the companies involved in the construction.
The state-of-the-art Fisheries Harbour in Dikovita, near Peliyagoda, some 10 km. outside Colombo was mooted by then Minister of Fisheries and incumbent President, Mahinda Rajapakse. The CEA (Central Environment Authority) Report was obtained as far back as 1997. After much lobbying which was painstaking at times, the government got the Dutch government to take this project on: it resulted in an outright grant of 35% of the cost, with the balance being funded on a “soft” loan on an extremely fortuitous interest rate of 0.5% — guaranteed of course by the Treasury.
The Cabinet Appointed Tender Board (CATB) went through the routine motions and selected the offer which was adjudged the best. The Cabinet of Ministers accordingly approved the award of this project to the Dutch company BAM International and work commenced in March this year.
Lucrative sub contract
The sticking point appears to be that the lucrative sub contract to supply boulders for the new breakwater was not awarded to any politically connected party. BAM International has stringent checks and balances upon which they rely on, prior to awarding any sub contract.
That the sub contract is lucrative is beyond doubt: a fleet of over 50 dump trucks are in operation, making in excess of 85 trips per day, in order that the daily target of 1,200 tonnes of rock is delivered for the breakwater work. With the work beginning last March, the race is on to finish the breakwater before the onset of the Monsoon weather.
However, deliveries of the boulders have hit a problem beginning last week. Drivers are stopped en-route and warned not to make the deliveries, stating that these deliveries are not welcome in the least. On one occasion last week more than 35 deliveries were stopped and the vehicles forced to return to their base in Horana. Although no violence has been reported, the ambience was unmistakably intimidating.
Minister Felix Perera, having been at the Cabinet meeting which discussed and subsequently approved the award of the contract is of the view that this entire tender was a “fraud” and that he was responsible to the people of this country to ensure fair play. It was almost as though Minister Felix Perera was quoting chapter and verse from the Constitution and Article 28 (D) specifically.
Missed the point
The Minister however appears to have missed the point: if, he now believes that the award of this tender was not what it seems and therefore he, as Minister, wished to have this cancelled, the legal and executive remedies available to the Minister have not been exercised. At each juncture, the Minister’s pronouncements are that he would report this matter to the President: almost as though he was unaware that it was the President himself who had initiated this programme. It is difficult to believe that the President would seek to intervene in this matter especially as he was focused on getting this project off the ground for a very long time.
It is also more than “difficult” to see why the line Minister, Felix Perera appears to wish to embark on a course of action which will only delay and stymie the progress of this very important project. The people of the area in Elkanda, Ja-Ela, stand to benefit significantly from this project. As a long standing resident of Ja-Ela, Felix Perera is set to gain adulation and lots more votes by the success of this project, yet he appears to like sailing close to the wind.
Direct access to the sea
The harbour will provide direct access to the sea for the local fishermen who now have to use the Hamilton canal and Negombo lagoon. The harbour and its facilities will replace inadequate berthing facilities at various locations and provide high standard facilities to increase export possibilities.
The harbour will be approximately one kilometre long and the harbour basin is formed by two breakwaters at the seaside and quay walls at the landside. Designed to handle a daily catch of 125 tonnes of fish per day, the harbour will include an administration building, auction building, a net and glass fibre repair building, a general store with fire fighting equipment, crew amenities, a canteen, fuel and water facilities and a slipway.
The project is financed by an ORET grant from the Dutch Government and an Atradius covered soft loan provided by HSBC and supported by ORET. The total support of the Dutch Government via the ORET programme for this project is approximately EUR. 17 million.
The Dutch contractors appear to be fully traumatised by this turn of events. They had, at the beginning high regard for the rule of Sri Lanka’s laws and the island’s commitment to uphold legal contracts. They were so worried that they wished not to make any official statements in this regard. Their actions however speak louder than words: they did report this matter to the Wattala Police complaining that unknown persons were hampering their trucks coming into the area. They asked The Sunday Leader to look for “another source.”
Contact Neil Rupasinghe
A driver who was stopped earlier this week was told to contact Neil Rupasinghe if he wished to proceed: thereafter when a representative of BAM International met Rupasinghe – perhaps out of gross naivety — he was told by Rupasinghe that if “they” were given the transport contract, the deliveries of rock would go ahead unhampered and without any hindrance.
The local company Entra who are the sub-contractors were also unavailable for comment. The Dutch Ambassador promised to get back with a statement which to date he has not sent in. The Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries, promised to investigate matters and asked us to contact him early next week.
Minister Felix Perera proved difficult to get at with him apparently constantly being away from the phone: it would be of significant and monumental assistance to the general public if he either spoke to the media or issued a comprehensive and well thought out statement outlining the full implications.

ஈழப் போராட்டங்களை திசை திருப்பவே உலகத் தமிழ் மாநாட்டை தமிழக முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி அறிவித்திருக்கிறார் என்று குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளார் நாம் தமிழர் இயக்கத் தலைவர், இயக்குநர் சீமான்.புதுக்கோட்டையில், இன்றும் நாம் தமிழர் இயக்கத்தின் கலந்தாய்வுக் கூட்டம் நடைபெற்றது. அதற்கு முன்னதாக செய்தியாளர்களைச் சந்தித்து பேசிய போது:கோவையில் உலகத்தமிழ் மாநாடு நடத்தப்போவதாக கலைஞர் அறிவித்திருக்கிறார். மகிழ்ச்சிதான். ஆனால் இந்த மாநாடு ஏன் காலம் கடந்து நடக்கிறது. ஒன்று மட்டும் புரிகிறது. ஈழ போராட்டங்களை திசை திருப்பத்தான்....மக்களின் போராட்ட குணங்களை மாற்றத்தான் உலகத்தமிழ் மாநாடு நடக்கிறது. ஆனால் என்ன செய்தாலும் எங்கள் போராட்ட குணத்தை மாற்ற முடியாது. தேசிய இனத்தின் அடக்குமுறைக்கு எதிரான விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தைத்தான் பிரபாகரன் நடத்திவந்தார். அதைத்தான் நாங்களும் செய்து வருகிறோம்.இனி போராடி பலனில்லை என்று சில அமைப்புகள் கொஞ்சம் அமைதி காக்கின்றன. ஆனால் நாம் தமிழர் இயக்கம் அமைதியாக இருக்காது. பொதுவாக நேற்று வரை நடந்து வந்த ஈழ போராட்டத்தில் இப்போது சிறிது இடைவெளி இருக்கு. இன்னும் நான்கு மாதங்கள் அல்லது நான்கு வருடங்களில் ஈழ போராட்டம் முன்பை விட பெரிய அளவில் வெடிக்கும்.தனித்தமிழ் ஈழம் தான் தீர்வு; அந்த தீர்வை நோக்கி போராட்டம் தொடரும். இனி நாங்கள் இழப்பதற்கு ஒன்றுமில்லை. இரத்தம், கண்ணீர், மண்ணையும் இழந்துவிட்டோம். அதனால் எங்களால் இழப்பதற்கு ஒன்றுமில்லை. ஆனால் இனி இழக்கப்போவது சிங்களன் தான். சிங்களன் தான் இழக்க வேண்டும்.மும்பை தாக்குதல் சம்பவத்தால் பாகிஸ்தான் எதிரி நாடாகிவிட்டது இந்தியாவுக்கு. அதனால் அங்கே கிரிகெட் விளையாட வீரர்களை அனுப்பவில்லை. இலங்கையில் தமிழர்களை கொன்று குவித்தார்கள் சிங்களர்கள். அதை மறந்துவிட்டு, மறைத்துவிட்டு இலங்கைக்கு கிரிக்கெட் விளையாட இந்தியா வீரர்களை அனுப்புகிறது.பாகிஸ்தான் எதிரி நாடு; இலங்கை மட்டும் நட்பு நாடா? ஏன் இந்த பிரிவினை என்றார் சீமான். பின்னர் செய்தியாளர்கள் கேட்ட கேள்வி ஒன்றுக்கு சீமான் பதிலளிக்கையில், வரும் மே-17ல் இந்த இயக்கத்தின் சார்பில் நடக்கும் மாநாட்டில் நாம் தமிழர் இயக்க கட்சியின் சின்னம் மற்றும் கொடி அறிமுகப்படுத்தபடும் என்றார்.பாரதிராஜா ஏன் உங்கள் ஈழ ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களில் பங்கேற்கவில்லை என்ற கேள்விக்கு, பாரதிராஜாவிற்கு சில வேலைகள் இருப்பதால் அவர் நாம் தமிழர் ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களில் கலந்துகொள்ளாமல் ஒதுங்கி இருக்கிறார். அவருக்கு இருக்கும் பணிகள் முடிவடைந்ததும் பங்கேற்பார் என்று நம்புகிறேன் என்றார்.

கலைஞர் அவர்களே, நாங்கள் உங்களை மறந்துவிடவே விரும்புகின்றோம்!

இந்தியாவின் நெறிப்படுத்தலுடனும், பல்வேறு உலக நாடுகளின் யுத்த வளங்களுடனும் சிங்கள அரசு மேற்கொண்ட தமிழின அழிப்பு யுத்தம் முடிவுக்கு வந்துள்ள போதும், அந்த யுத்த களத்திலிருந்து தப்பிப் பிழைத்த தமிழீழ மக்களின் அவலங்கள் 120 நாட்கள் கடந்த நிலையிலும் தீர்ந்தபாடில்லை.
முள்ளிவாய்க்காலில் நடந்து முடிந்த அவலங்களிலிருந்து மீள வகையின்றித் தவிக்கும் 300,000 தமிழர்கள் இன்று வதை முகாம்களுக்குள் வைத்து சித்திரவதைக்குள்ளாக்கப்படுகிறார்கள். வந்தோரை வாழவைத்து, மார் தட்டி நின்ற வன்னி மண்ணின் மக்கள் இன்று ஒரு வேளை சோற்றுக்கு எதிரிகளிடமே தட்டேந்தி நிற்கும் பரிதாபக் காட்சி உலக நாடுகளின் மனச்சாட்சியைத் தட்டி வருகின்றது.
ஈழத் தமிழினம் நடந்து முடிந்த அவலங்களை மட்டுமல்ல, நடந்தேறிய துரோகங்களையும் மறந்துவிடத்தான் முயற்சிக்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும் அவர்களால் எதையுமே மறக்க முடியாதபடி மீண்டும் மீண்டு நோகடிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள். நம்பிக்கையற்ற எதிர்காலத்தை நோக்கி நாட்களைக் கழிக்கின்றார்கள்.
புலம்பெயர் தமிழர்கள், வதை முகாம்களில் அடைத்து வைக்கப்பட்டு, தினமும் அழிக்கப்படும் தம் உறவுகளை எண்ணி வேதனையுடன் கண்ணீர்ப் போராட்டம் நிகழ்த்துகிறார்கள். மனிதாபிமானம் மிக்க மேற்குலக நாடுகளிடம் தென்படும் மாற்றங்கள் மட்டுமே அவர்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை தருவதாக உள்ளது.
ஈழத் தமிழர்களின் இன்னொரு சோகம் அவ்வப்போது கலைஞர் கருணாநிதி எழுதும் கடிதங்கள். இறுதி வாய் சொட்டு நீருக்கும் வழியின்றி தமிழகம் நோக்கி அவலக் குரல் எழுப்பியவாறு அந்த கடற்கரை மண்ணில் வீழ்ந்து மடிந்த போதும் கலைஞர் கடிதம்தான் எழுதிக்கொண்டிருந்தார். தமிழின அழிப்பின் இறுதி நாட்களில் சிங்கள தேசத்தின் தாக்குதல்களில் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான தமிழீழ மக்கள் இரத்தம் சிந்திச் சாய்ந்த வேளையிலும், நெருப்பில் கருகி வீழ்ந்த வேளையிலும் கலைஞர் கடிதம் எழுதிக்கொண்டுதான் இருந்தார்.

ஈழத் தமிழர்களின் சாபக்கேடு, தமிழகத்தில் ஈரமுள்ள ஒரு தலைவன் அப்போது இருக்கவில்லை. தமிழகத்து முதல்வர் கதிரையில் கருணாநிதியைத் தவிர யார் இருந்தாலும் பாதித் தமிழர்களாவது காப்பாற்றப்பட்டிருப்பார்கள். மீதித் தமிழர்கள் சிறையில் வதைபட்டிருக்க மாட்டார்கள் என்பதுதான் ஈழத் தமிழர்களின் ஆதங்கம்.

போனது போகட்டும், சிங்கள தேசத்திற்கு நேசமான ஒரு சக்தி தமிழகத்தை ஆட்சி செய்கின்றது என்று எம்மை நாமே நொந்து கொண்டு, வர இருக்கும் காலத்தை நம்பிக்கையோடு திசை மாற்றம் செய்திருப்போம். அதையும் மீறி, அடிக்கடி கலைஞர் எழுதும் கடிதங்கள் எம்மைக் கோபம் கொள்ள வைக்கின்றது.
‘நன்மை செய்யப் பிறந்த நீ, நன்மை செய்யாவிட்டாலும் தீமையாவது செய்யாமல் இரு’ என்ற வசனம் நாங்கள் படித்ததுதான். ஆனால், கலைஞருக்கு இது தெரியுமோ அறியோம். வரலாற்றில் யூதாஸ் காசுக்காக தேவமகன் யேசுவைக் காட்டிக் கொடுத்தான். எட்டப்பன் பொறாமையால் கட்டப்பொம்மனைக் காட்டிக்கொடுத்தான். காக்கை வன்னியன் வெள்ளையர்களிடம் விலை போனதால் பண்டாரவன்னியனைக் காட்டிக் கொடுத்தான். எம் தலைவனை யார் காட்டிக் கொடுத்தான்? விடுதலைப் புலிகளை யார் விலை பேசி விற்றார்கள்? தமிழீழ மக்களின் அழிவுக்கு யார் துணை நின்றார்கள்?

குடும்பத்து உறவுகளின் சொகுசு வாழ்க்கைக்கு மந்திரிப் பதவி யாசித்து டெல்லி சென்ற கலைஞர், அதற்காக சோனியாவின் உறவையும் அறுத்தெறியத் துணிந்தார். மந்திரிப் பதவிகள் வீடு தேடியே வந்தது. பாவிகள்… ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் கொலைக்களத்தில் நின்று அவலக் குரல் எழுப்பிய போதும் பொய்யாகக் கூடக் கோபம் காட்டவில்லையே.

தமிழகத்தில் முத்துக்குமாரன் மூட்டிய தீ, தன் சொந்தங்களுக்கும் சொத்துக்கும் சேதத்தை ஏற்படுத்திவிடுமோ என்ற ஆதங்கத்தில் மரினா கடற்கரையில் சினிமா காட்டியதற்கு மேலாக எதையுமே செய்யவில்லையே…
வான் குண்டு மழையில் ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் கூட்டம் கூட்டமாகக் கொலையுண்டு போகையிலே, காதல் கதை எழுதி ‘உழியின் ஓசை’ படைத்தாய்… தப்பிப்பிழைத்த தமிழீழ மக்கள் வதை முகாம்களில் சிக்கிச் சிதைக்கப்படுகையிலே ‘பெண் சிங்கம்’ என்றொரு காதல் திரைப்படம்… இவ்வளது பெருந்துயர் ஈழத்தில் நடந்த வேளையிலும், எங்கள் தயரங்களை எழுத் உங்களுக்கு மனம் வரவில்லையே…
கலைஞர்கள் இதயம் மென்மையானது… சுற்றி நிகழும் துன்பங்கள் எல்லாம் அவனைச் சுட்டெரிக்கும் என்கிறார்களே… எங்கள் துயரம், கலைஞரே உங்களைத் தொட்டும் பார்க்கவில்லையே…! பாவிகள் நாங்கள் உங்கள் காலத்தில் வாழ்கிறோமே…! புலிகளின் வீரத்தால் பெருமையுடன் மார்தட்டி நின்ற தமிழர்கள், உங்கள் சுயநல வாழ்க்கையால் மனம் குன்றி நிற்கிறோம்.
நீங்கள் மனைவியார், துணைவியார் சகிதம் உங்கள் குடும்ப உறவுகளோடு இன்னமும் பல்லாண்டு வாழ மஞ்சள் விறத்துக்குச் செந்தமான கடவுளிடம் வேண்டுகின்றோம். பதவி சுகத்துடனும் பலகோடி சொத்துக்களுடனும் நிறைவான வாழ்க்கை வாழும் நீங்கள் ஈழத் தமிழர்களுக்காகக் கடிதங்கள் எழுதி உங்கள் பொன்னான நேரங்களை வீணடிக்காதீர்கள். நீங்கள் எழுதும் கடிதங்களால் எங்கள் வேதனைகள் பெருகுகின்றது. கலைஞர் அவர்களே, நாங்கள் உங்களை மறந்துவிடவே விரும்புகின்றோம். மீண்டும் மீண்டும் உங்களை நினைக்க வைத்து எங்கள் வயிற்றெரிச்சலைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளாதீர்கள்.
சரித்திரம் வீரர்களையும், தியாகிகளையும், ஆற்றல் மிக்கவர்களையும் மட்டுமே வரலாறாய் பதிவு செய்யும். விடுதலைப் புலிகள் சரித்திரம் படைத்தவர்கள். வரலாற்றுக்குச் சொந்தக்காரர்கள். உலகம் உள்ளவரை அவர்கள் புகழ் நிலைத்தே இருக்கும். அது போதும் அவர்களது தியாகத்திற்கு.
