Mayor announces new Chennai Primary School, Swimming Team, Siddha hospital

Chennai, March 17:
The Chennai Corporation will construct a new Siddha hospital, a primary school in Nungambakkam and also plans to form a dedicated team of swimmers to represent the civic body in national and international events, Mayor M. Subramanian has announced.
Replying to the demands raised by various councillors during the marathon six-hour budget discussion session here on Wednesday, the Mayor said, “We also explore possibilities to set up a commercial complex at Third Avenue in Anna Nagar near the Anna Siddha Hospital, where private vehicles create chaos due to haphazard parking.”
With the new announcements made at the end of the budget session, the total number of such announcements has risen to 136 from 122 that were unveiled on Monday by the Mayor.
After the voice vote among the councillors in special session, the Corporation council adopted the entire budget announcements made for 2010-11 period.
School, college students and members of public could become the member of the proposed Chennai Corporation Swimming Team. They would be imparted with advanced training at the civic body’s swimming pools and could be moulded to represent the historical civic body at national and international swimming events.
Besides improving Robinson Park Playground in Royapuram, the Corporation will also set up two lawn tennis courts to fulfil youths interest on tennis sport and to procure 15 more tri-cycle mounted fogging machines, Subramanian said.
With the announcement of new Siddha Hospital, number of such hospitals has risen to four in the city and the planned primary school in Nungambakkam could come up near Corporation Girls School there.
Heeding to demands, he also announced that Corporation would procure small mechanical sweepers for cleaning interior roads and also provide digital maps on new storm water drains that are to be constructed across the city under micro and macro drain project funded by the centre under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
