CHENNAI : In a major security breach, a woman and her daughter broke the security cordon and presented a petition to chief minister J Jayalalithaaas her vehicle approached the exit gate of the secretariat complex at Fort St George.
A startled Jayalalithaa saw the 45-year old Ramayee, hailing from Lalgudi in Tiruchi district, running towards her car. She asked the driver to stop and accepted the petition. ToI scribe saw police officials stopping Punidha, Ramayee's daughter before she could reach the CM's car. Soon after the incident, the woman was questioned by security officials, including some woman cops, for nearly half an hour, as they tried to extract personal details about her.
"I secured a housing loan from a bank in my area. After paying continously for the one and half year, the bank charged more interest and at one point of time they (bank officials) confiscated my property without any intimation. I tried several ways and means to regain my property but all went in vain. Therefore I took a chance to meet "Amma" (Jayalalithaa). Luckily I got the opportunity", she told TOI.
Visibily shaken Punidha, a final year MCA student studying in Tiruchy, said "My mother told me to run. I do not know what happened after that.
A senior woman cop, who did not want to be named said " It is really a shame for our convoy. She (Jayalalithaa) comes under the Z-Plus' category of security and certain safety measures are must. There cannot be any compromise on security measures including keeping the onlookers away along the convoy route," she said
Police sources said a detailed enquiry would be conducted into the incident.
